Jessica Harrington sends one horse on a 1,290km round-trip to Newbury

Tiger Roll wins the 2019 Grand National

As they say in Ireland, “we aren’t travelling over for the craic lad”. When the Irish send a horse over to the United Kingdom, they mean business. That was evident last weekend at Cheltenham. The Mick Winters trained Chatham Street Lad won the Caspian Caviar Gold Cup and looks like a Grade 1 performer now. John McConnell had two great winners – Some Neck (18-1) in the Cross Country Handicap Chase and Make Good (12-1) in the Bristol Hurdle. Jessica Harrington sends one horse across the water to Newbury on Wednesday. Let us take a look at the horse in more detail.

Wednesday: 1.45 Newbury

She was successful in this race for the last two years and she is back for some more. Runner-up in an Aintree Grand National, MAGIC OF LIGHT again makes the 1,290 kilometre round-trip to Newbury from her base in County Kildare, Ireland. Robbie Power will take the ride on her for this fascinating Listed affair and she’s likely to be short enough for it.

There is no question that she got things her own way in the race last year. Two of her rivals unseated rider in the four runner affair and she ran out a 99-length victor. She ran out a 14-length winner the year prior so she clearly has a love for this track and connections will be coming here to win. You would have to be pretty brave to take her on.

chief danger will be Sensulano, but she was no match for Magic Of Light when the pair met at Ascot in January. Carrolls Milan makes up the trifecta of runners for trainer Fergal O’Brien. She has a lot to find on ratings but does arrive here in good form.
